2022 Stanley Cup Final: Avalanche rout Lightning, take 2-0 series lead

The Colorado Avalanche have a 2-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final after winning Game 2 7-0 over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. With the series shifting to Tampa, the Avalanche have outscored the Lightning 11-3.

Valeri Nichushkin opened the scoring 2:54 into the game. He added another goal in the second period. Nichushkin has eight goals and five assists through 16 playoff games.

Cale Makar also recorded two goals for the Avalanche. The Colorado defenseman has seven goals and 17 assists during these playoffs.

Josh Manson, Andre Burakovsky and Darren Helm each scored a goal in the Avalanche victory. It is the first time in Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy’s career that he’s given up three first-period goals in back-to-back games. Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper recorded 17 saves in the shutout performance.

For the second consecutive series, the Lightning are down 2-0. The Avalanche are two wins away from their first Stanley Cup championship since 2001.

Game 3 is Monday at 8 p.m. ET.
