Marseille are keen to sign defender Nuno Tavares on loan and Arsenal will consider sanctioning his exit if they manage to recruit in that area, The Athletic understands.
Tavares only joined the Premier League club last summer but they are open to the idea of letting him leave on a temporary basis.
For that to happen, however, it is believed Arsenal want to bolster their back line through the market and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax is known to be the priority target.
Marseille would like to bring Tavares to Stade Velodrome and after finishing second in Ligue 1, Jorge Sampaoli’s side have a Champions League campaign to prepare for.
The 22-year-old Portugal Under-21 international spent last season as understudy to first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney.
Following his arrival from Benfica for around £8 million in July 2021, Tavares made 28 appearances across all competitions and scored one goal as Mikel Arteta’s men qualified for the Europa League.
Arsenal have been active in the window already with Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira arriving, while Leeds United winger Raphinha and Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus are also among their targets.
Eddie Nketiah has been tied to a new contract but fellow forward Alexandre Lacazette and defender Konstantinos Mavropanos have left.
