Aston Villa are set to sign Coventry City centre-half Thierry Katsukunya as they continue to strengthen their development teams.
The 16-year-old has been targeted in a deal that will cost Villa a significant six-figure fee.
Katsukunya plays for Coventry’s under-18 side and has impressed representatives from the Premier League side.
Katsukunya is a tall and athletic defender who has been at Coventry since he was a youngster.
Villa have made it their mission to become the strongest academy in the West Midlands and continue to scout talent at rival clubs. The move for Katsukunya, of Midlands neighbours Coventry, is a move designed to follow that plan.
They have watched the teenager in action and believe he has the potential to rise through the age groups at Bodymoor Heath.
Owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have invested a huge amount into the academy in a bid to become more self-sustainable in the future.
