Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has been suspended two games for boarding Chicago Blackhawks center Kirby Dach in a game Wednesday night, the NHL announced on Thursday. The incident occurred in the third period of the Avalanche’s 4-2 win against the Blackhawks in Denver.
The 28-year-old Landeskog, who signed an eight-year, $56 million extension with the Avalanche in the offseason, scored a first-period goal in the season-opening win. Landeskog, who will miss the Avs’ home game against St. Louis on Saturday and a road game in Washington on Oct. 19, will forfeit $70,000 in salary.
Dach, 20, remained in and was able to finish the game.
