Canadiens forward Alex Belzile and defenseman Kale Clague were placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list, the team announced Friday. According to the team’s release, Montreal’s number of players on the list now sits at 24.
On Thursday, the team announced a pause of activities through Jan. 8. Montreal last played on Jan. 1 but is not scheduled to play again until Jan. 12.
The following Montreal players are still on the list after adding Belzile and Clague: Brandon Baddock, Paul Byron, Laurent Dauphin, Jake Evans, Rafael Harvey-Pinard, Cameron Hillis, Mike Hoffman, Artturi Lehkonen, Michael Pezzetta, Tyler Toffoli, Jesse Ylonen, Louie Belpedio, Ben Chiarot, Joel Edmundson, Gianni Fairbrother, Jeff Petry, Alexander Romanov, David Savard, Chris Wideman, Jake Allen, Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.
Assistant coach Trevor Letowski and goaltending coach Eric Raymond are also in COVID-19 protocols.
As part of several NHL game postponements in Canada due to attendance restrictions, the Canadiens aren’t scheduled to play their next home game until Jan. 27. Their last home game was Dec. 16.
Montreal is 7-23-4 and has the NHL’s worst points percentage at .265.
