The Arizona Cardinals have designated star defensive end J.J. Watt to return from injured reserve, the team announced Friday. Watt can begin practicing immediately and can be activated to the 53-man roster at any time during the next three weeks.
Watt has missed most of the 2021 season after injuring his shoulder in a Week 7 win over his former team, the Houston Texans. The 32-year-old underwent shoulder surgery shortly after sustaining the injury.
Watt started the first seven games of 2021 for Arizona in his first season with the team after 10 years in Houston. He tallied one sack, 16 total tackles and 10 quarterback hits before getting injured.
The Cardinals (11-5) have clinched a playoff spot and are in the hunt for the NFC West title. Arizona will face the Seattle Seahawks in its regular-season finale on Sunday.
