Dean Henderson: Nottingham Forest agree deal with Manchester United for season-long loan

Nottingham Forest have agreed a loan deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, The Athletic understands.

The loan move is subject to a medical. Forest are believed to be paying Henderson’s full salary over the course of his season-long loan.

Forest need to replace Brice Samba, who has told them he will not sign a new contract with the club and wants to leave this summer. His contract runs out next summer. Samba is expected to join Lens, providing they can agree a fee with Forest.

Henderson would step in for Samba, who accumulated 45 appearances across all competitions last season and was integral to his team reaching the English top division for the first time since 1999.

The 25-year-old has already starred in the top-flight for Sheffield United during a loan spell there in 2019-20. However, he has struggled for game time since returning to United, failing to displace first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea.

He will now be hoping to establish himself at newly-promoted Forest.
