Leicester City don’t like doing transfer business in the January window but they may have to change their approach to address the defensive fragility that has plagued their season.

Over the years they have done some good business. Wilfred Ndidi was a January signing, and Youri Tielemans came in on loan in the January of 2019 but overall Leicester see the window as the refuge of the desperate, a difficult market to deal in where the quality on offer is limited and the asking prices inflated.

Brendan Rodgers was asked recently what his plans were for this January window. He paused to contemplate his response before stating: “There’s nothing as of yet. Our focus will narrow on that. Of course, we’re having regular meetings, but we’ll leave that for a bit later on.”

Those meetings with head of recruitment Lee Congerton and the technical scouting staff will have been looking at all areas of Rodgers’ stuttering squad, although in attacking areas he does seem to have less urgency to dip his toe in the transfer waters.
