England confirm Ivory Coast friendly during March international break

England will play Ivory Coast in a friendly at Wembley on March 29.

The announcement by the FA confirms a second friendly match for England during the March international break, after a game against Switzerland on March 26 — also at Wembley — as an Alzheimer’s Society International.

The Athletic reported that the FA were considering Switzerland and Ivory Coast as potential opponents in David Ornstein’s column on Monday.

Ivory Coast are currently competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, where they will face Egypt in the round of 16 after topping their group.

This match will be Ivory Coast’s first visit to Wembley, and England’s first fixture against non-European opposition since November 2018 when they beat the USA 3-0.

While England booked their place in this year’s Qatar World Cup last Autumn, Ivory Coast failed to qualify for the competition as they finished second in their group behind Cameroon.

Switzerland, England’s other opponent in March, have also already qualified for the World Cup.
