Four-star prospects Jordan Hudson, Chace Biddle among SMU de-commitments

SMU lost five commits, including three four-star prospects, on Wednesday afternoon as speculation grows about the potential departure of head coach Sonny Dykes.

Garland (Texas) High School teammates Jordan Hudson and Chace Biddle, the Mustangs’ two highest-ranked 2022 recruits, were among the defections.

Dykes has been linked to the vacancy at TCU and is considered the frontrunner for the job, multiple sources told The Athletic. SMU offered Dykes a contract extension this month that would make him one of the highest-paid Group of 5 coaches, but a deal has not been finalized.

All five recruits who de-committed were also heavily recruited by SMU assistant head coach and running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples, who is considered the team’s top recruiter. Samples is expected to be courted by numerous Power 5 programs because of his recruiting prowess in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country.
