FSU lands transfer defensive end Jared Verse from Albany

Florida State has landed one of the top transfers in defensive end Jared Verse, with the redshirt freshman announcing his commitment to the Seminoles on Friday night. Verse, previously at Albany of the FCS, ranks as the second-best available transfer in The Athletic‘s college football top 25 transfer portal.

The 6-foot-4, 247-pound edge racked up a total of 75 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks and two forced fumbles for the Great Danes in 15 games played between the spring and fall. He won CAA defensive rookie of the year in the spring and earned All-America honors this fall.

Other schools battling for Verse included Florida, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas and USC, among others.

Florida State ended the 2021 season at 5-7 — fifth in the ACC Atlantic division.
