Future Flames? Projecting NHL timelines for Jakob Pelletier, Matthew Coronato and other Calgary prospects – The Athletic

The Calgary Flames have the most points in the Western Conference at an important check point of the season — American Thanksgiving — and their farm team also is turning heads with a similarly … hot start to the season.

The Stockton Heat opened the AHL season with a 12-game point streak and sit atop the league’s Western Conference with a 10-1-2 record. It’s been a good, albeit surprising, start overall for the Flames organization.

With a few days between Flames games, and with thousands of words already dedicated to their hot start, we decided to look ahead to the future of the organization. Which players having success in Stockton, or elsewhere, could soon do the same in Calgary? And who may still take some time?

Here, The Athletic’s Hailey Salvian and Scott Wheeler come together to predict the NHL timelines for the Flames’ top prospects — those who are call-up possibilities, camp favourites, are still a few years away and the wild-card candidates.

After some consideration, we decided against including “older prospects” such as Matthew Phillips, Connor Mackey and Glenn Gawdin. Instead, we’ve focused on the top 10 prospects who fall under Scott’s “under-23” criteria.
