Joe Lolley is poised to leave English football behind and sign for Sydney FC.
Lolley had offers from several Championship clubs after being jettisoned from the Nottingham Forest squad in the wake of their return to the Premier League, but the winger is ready for a new challenge and set to sign a two-year contract with the A-League side.
Having moved to the City Ground from Huddersfield Town in January 2018, Lolley was named Forest’s player-of-the-season the following year and quickly established himself as a popular figure among supporters. He scored 27 goals for the club across 170 appearances.
Although only 11 of his 30 appearances last season were starts, it still came as a surprise that Lolley was ordered to train with Forest’s Under-23s last month and told that he had no future at the club.
The 29-year-old joins a long list of players to have departed Forest since promotion was won via the play-offs in May.
