Lightning’s Brayden Point out indefinitely with upper-body injury

Tampa Bay Lightning center Brayden Point will be out indefinitely with an upper-body injury suffered during Saturday’s 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils, the team announced Sunday. Down 4-3, Point had the puck and was a few strides away from Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood when he was tripped by defenseman Ryan Graves.

Point slid past the goal and tried to brace himself with his arms as he made a hard impact into the boards. The Lightning were awarded a penalty shot, but it deflected off Blackwood and hit the crossbar. The sixth-year player has seven goals and six assists through 16 games this season for Tampa Bay, which sits third in the Atlantic Division.

The Lightning are already missing two key players: Nikita Kucherov (lower-body surgery) and defenseman Erik Cernak (upper-body injury).
