Minnesota Lynx’s Sylvia Fowles cleared to return from knee injury

Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles has been cleared to return following her knee injury, the team announced Thursday. The team released forward Nikolina Milić from her hardship contract in a subsequent move.

Fowles, 36, has been sidelined for the past five games due to a cartilage injury in her right knee. She is in her 15th and final WNBA season and is averaging 16.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in 12 games.

The two-time WNBA champion was named as a co-captain of the 2022 WNBA All-Star Game alongside Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart on Wednesday. The All-Star selection is the eighth in Fowles’ decorated career, which includes a 2017 Finals MVP.

Fowles will be available to play Thursday night against the Mercury. Minnesota sits in last place in the Western Conference with a 4-13 record.
