Nets’ problems persist in blowout loss to Bucks, 4th defeat in last 5 games – The Athletic

BROOKLYN — Prior to Friday, the last time the Milwaukee Bucks came to Brooklyn, Kevin Durant came within an inch of ending their season, altering their franchise and sending the Nets to the conference finals.

In the Bucks’ first visit back, the Nets couldn’t even get a lead.

Milwaukee blew out the Nets 121-109 to give Brooklyn its fourth loss in the last five games. Durant scored 29 points, while Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas each had 14. For the season, Brooklyn is 0-7 against the NBA’s top eight teams. The Nets’ lone win this week came Wednesday when Kyrie Irving returned and helped a late rally to beat Indiana, starting his part-time status off on a high note. But the Jrue Holiday-less Bucks didn’t need their third star to manhandle the Nets. Holiday missed Friday’s game because he’s in health and safety protocols, while Irving remains ineligible for home games due to his vaccination status. Those absences evened out the star power, giving both teams two-thirds of their respective trios. The difference was in the supporting casts.

“It’s a little frustrating,” James Harden said. “We just can’t get it together. It’s been, what, four games, something like that, four of five. It feels like it’s both ends of the ball.
