Royals reliever Wade Davis retires, leaves as World Series champ, 3-time All-Star

Kansas City Royals reliever Wade Davis is retiring, the team announced on Wednesday. The veteran pitcher won a World Series with the team in 2015 and was a three-time All-Star throughout his 13-year MLB career.

After pitching the first four seasons of his career in Tampa Bay, Davis played four years in Kansas City from 2013 to 2016 before spending time with the Cubs (2017) and the Rockies (2018-2020). He returned to the Royals for the 2021 season, pitching 42.2 innings and striking out 38 batters.

Davis, 36, recorded the final out as part of a shutout inning for the Royals in the series-clinching Game 5 win over the Mets in the 2015 World Series. It was the franchise’s second league title, with the other coming in 1985.
