Tottenham in talks with Udinese over Destiny Udogie

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Udinese over Italian left-back Destiny Udogie, The Athletic understands.

If they can complete the signing, Spurs intend to send Udogie, 19, on loan for the forthcoming season — as they did immediately after signing Pape Matar Sarr from Metz last summer.

Spurs’ head coach Antonio Conte is an admirer of Udogie, an exciting attacking left-back who scored five goals in 35 league appearances for Udinese last season, having joined from Verona in the summer of 2021.

Managing director of football Fabio Paratici meanwhile has closely followed Udogie’s career that has seen him play for various Italy youth sides, up to the under-21s. While Paratici was at Juventus, he was interested in signing Udogie, then at Verona.

Udogie has attracted interest from other clubs this summer, including from Brighton & Hove Albion as a possible replacement for Marc Cucurella. And given Udogie has only been at the club for a year and they’ve already sold their other first-choice wing-back Nahuel Molina to Atletico Madrid, Udinese are reluctant to sell.

But Spurs are hopeful they will be able to get the deal over the line as they look to build for beyond just this season.
