What should UGA fans make of Jermaine Burton (and other Bulldogs) entering the transfer portal? Georgia mailbag – The Athletic

ATHENS, Ga. — My count was at just under nine days: The time it took for much of Georgia’s fan base to get back in a lather. Which was almost reassuring, like breathing back in that familiar air of angst and loathing.

One of my readers very astutely captured it with his submission this week:

Don’t you think Georgia could have won the national championship twice this year if Kirby Smart and Todd Monken had a clue about handling quarterbacks?

Vann T.

Couldn’t agree more. If only this team had truly been able to maximize its talent. Ah, what might have been!

Actually, Vann may have been targeting critics outside the fan base, come to think of it. Well, nevertheless! It was certainly a more Georgia-centric reaction on Wednesday evening, when the expected happened — Stetson Bennett coming back, JT Daniels heading out – at the same time the unexpected – Jermaine Burton also heading out. (Probably.)

So we start there, with the twin reality that some things never change, even as everything has changed.

Can you tell everyone that the program won’t fall apart if Jermaine Burton, Darnell Washington, and/or Brock Vandagriff transfer?

Chan C.

This is said as someone who tries hard to stay away from absolutes: Everything changed on Jan. 10.
